MAIC - Alternative Models of Cultural Infrastructure: Development Possibilities for the Performative Scene in Romania

Facing the challenges of this new era of resilience and de-growth, the article focuses on designing alternative formulas of soft cultural infrastructure as a way of both enhancing the development of the Romanian cultural scene and creating community re-generation through culture and education. Our exploratory research positions the academic environment as an engine for systemic change and social development. It explores the possibilities of creating long-term interdisciplinary platforms of dialogue and collaboration between academia – local authorities and independent entities, with the purpose of generating new working formulas strongly connected to the reality of those specific communities. The article emphasizes on the importance of re-conceptualizing the idea of culture as a public service and the need of developing new public policies for culture that can sustain its adapting to contemporary challenges. Built on a bottom-up vision, this action-based research aims to explore 5 models of alternative cultural infrastructure starting from community based to focused on innovation.
