3-day Workshop, May-Jun. 2025, Announcement
Workshop "Urban Co-Production. The Berlin Case" for students from the university of Biberach, Regensburg and TU Berlin, by the Fairville Berlin Lab (Prof. Anna Steigemann, Lorenza Manfredi) The Rathausblock is a regeneration area in Berlin-Kreuzberg. A cooperative model project between the city administration and civil society emerged from more than ten years of struggle by urban activists. New alliances were tested in an unconventional way. The project is currently in the development phase and highlights the challenges and potential of co-production. How do you communicate between such different actors? How can the different organizational and power-structural framework conditions for an inclusive, balanced and productive exchange be overcome? How can a fair urban co-production be designed? In this excursion, we will explore this case together through practical exercises and explorations. We will reflect on how to create affordable living and working space as well as social and cultural places that are oriented towards the common good - thinking urban development beyond an often resigned “Realpolitik”. As an introduction to the case study, we visit other exemplary projects in the Berlin context. Through meetings with the actors involved and accompanying research in preparation for the excursion, we will gain an in-depth insight into the current state of urban co-production in one of the European capitals that is currently dealing with these issues in a particularly intensive manner.
